Slam Off Announcement

Slam Off Announcement

Poets and Poetry Fans,

Congratulations! The day we have been waiting all year long has arrived…the day of the Slam Off! The Slam Off is Tuesday,
April 19th at the Percolator, 7 pm.

The Slam Off is the last poetry slam of the season. The competitors are poets who have already won a final round position at a slam or entered into the 2nd round at least twice. Free Hole Slam has compiled a list of 30 poets who have won this honor. The list is below. If you believe you should be on this list and are not please reply to this announcement immediately. If you know a poet who is on the list but they might not read this post please forward it to them or let them know.

If you are a poet competing in the Slam Off please read the following rules. They will be strictly enforced:

1. All competing poets must be at the Slam Off by 7 pm for sign up. There are 30 poets. If we do not start at 7pm we run the risk of slamming til midnight. No one wants that on a Tuesday.
2. Sign up will not be on a first come, first placed basis. All poets will be put their name into a hat. The emcee will draw those names and place them on the sign up sheet as they are drawn. YOU MUST BE PRESENT to put your name in the hat and have it drawn. The drawing will be at 7 pm.
3. The “no repeat” rule is discarded for The Women’s Slam and Slam Off. You may read any piece of poetry from this season. All other Slam Rules apply.
4. Depending how many poets actually arrive to the Slam Off at 7pm is how the rounds are distributed. We usually break the amount of poets in half for each successive round such as: 16, 8, 4. Once the number of poets is confirmed the emcee will announce how the break ups will go.
5. The last 4 poets remaining will automatically win a spot on our team for Slam Nationals in Boston, MA, August 8th – 11th.
6. 5th place and 6th place will be awarded alternate status in case a winning poet can not attend nationals.
7 All poets must pay for their flight to Slam Nationals as well as register with PSI.
8. Even if you have decided that you can not make it to Slam Nationals we still would like to encourage you to compete in the Slam Off. The more poets means the more competition and the more competition makes us all better poets…if that makes sense.

Here is the list of qualifying poets:
