Slam 01/26/10
History was made on the first slam of 2010 as little Jen Shugert finally ended a long string of second place efforts, which began in 1996 when she was first runner up for Little Miss Crackhead USA, and came on top of a slam for the first time in her now illustrious career that expands a couple of decades… on the week of her 29th birthday no less!

So after being told a slam is not a political forum we were treated to a commercial for the Texas governor’s race. I’m a Socialist and had no problem with the speaker’s point of view, but an art forum that has specifically been designated a “no soapbox zone” and then becomes one with the excuse, “Well, I’m not one of the poets.” is suffering some hypocrisy.
When I got home and checked the live stream I heard the speaker say “Good, I love to piss people off.” after being told I left.
I was planning to donate the full registration fee for The Percolator but now . . . not sure if I’ll even attend again. Should have asked for my donation to the bowl back.
If you’re trying to generate interest in your organization why would you deliberately and maliciously alienate someone just to say you’ve done it? She referred several times in the evening to having previously “pissed off the gays in the back.” Proud bragging rights indeed.
Offending for the sake of offending is puerile and weak. Grow up.
