Tumblewords Project 1/2 & 1/9

January 1, 2010

Long-time Free Holé Slam friend, Leslie Council will impart two workshops as part of Tumblewords:

Jan 2               Leslie Council                                    Word-Go-Round

The workshop will be based on the old creative process of sharing the creation of a piece of writing in a circle, sometimes known as renga, a traditional Japanese poetic game, or perhaps a new modern way of ‘tell the monkey’.   Participants will create new work out of bits and pieces of each other’s writing.

Jan 9               Leslie Council                        Scrapping Imaginations

Participants will create a writer’s resource similar to a scrapbook for use when stuck or blocked. A word provided can be worth a thousand words on the page–an inspiration and a base for the writer to expand upon after stumbling on a writer’s block. All supplies will be provided.

Leslie Council is a proud single mother  Most recently the layout editor for Tumblewords Project’s first anthology, Mezcla, Leslie is past editor of EPCC’s El Conquistador/Tejano Tribune and is currently a freelance graphic artist in a time of physical recovery. She works in a variety of creative forms which flow from all formats of ink, paint and graphic publication. For inquiries visit Leslie here.

Slam 12/29/09

January 1, 2010

Our final slam of ‘09 was by far the best one of the year! McKinnley hosted and fourteen slammers joined in the celebration, including the return of Twain and his stuck-in-the-county-jail-while-turning-4o-something poem! The slamming was rocking, the audience kicked ass and the judges were tough little puckered-up assholes, just the way we love ‘em! Seven slammers made it to the second round and four of them survived to get to the third round, but only Nancy reigned supreme at the end. All hail the current queen of slam!

Check out the entire action (now in HD!) here.

Last Slam of the Year!
